Laparoscopic Repair of Linea Alba Hernia Associated with Hepatic Round Ligament Incarceration—A Case Report—

Abstract

A 76-year-old woman presented to our hospital with abdominal pain that developed a few days prior to presentation. Following physical examination, she was diagnosed with linea alba hernia associated with hepatic round ligament incarceration. Closed reduction led to improvement in symptoms, and we planned to perform a waiting operation with laparoscopic surgery. The patient's general condition improved postoperatively, and she was discharged 3 days after the operation. No recurrence was observed 3 months postoperatively. Linea alba hernia with hepatic round ligament incarceration is rare, and only five cases have been previously reported in Japan. Usually, management of linea alba hernias involves simple closure or laparoscopic repair. Reportedly, recurrence and surgical site infection rates are lower and postoperative pain is lesser following laparoscopic repair than after simple closure.

In conclusion, laparoscopic surgery should be considered the method of choice for linea alba hernia repair. We report the second case of laparoscopic repair of linea alba hernia.
