A 67-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of right abdominal pain and general fatigue. On computed tomography (CT), there were multiple low-density lesions in the liver and a gastric tumor. The liver lesions were diagnosed as liver abscesses on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and treated with antibiotic therapy and percutaneous transhepatic abscess drainage. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a submucosal tumor with ulcers in the upper body of the stomach, and it was diagnosed as a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) on biopsy. Lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and ultrasonography showed no lesions causing the liver abscesses. Therefore, the liver abscesses were thought to have been caused by bacteria from the stomach reaching the liver via the portal vein. After treatment of the liver abscesses, total gastrectomy combined with distal pancreatectomy, partial transverse colectomy, partial jejunectomy, splenectomy, and cholecystectomy was performed. The patient has remained without recurrence of the liver abscesses and the GIST. There are few reports of liver abscesses associated with gastric GIST. This case is reported in the context of the relevant literature.
