Breast Cancer Treatment for Patients from the Aya Generation

Abstract

Breast cancer patients from the adolescent and young adult (AYA) generation, comprising individuals aged 15-39 years, are often targeted for perioperative systemic therapy. This age group tends to exhibit higher biological grades and more advanced disease, often with fewer instances of screening detection, in comparison to older breast cancer patients. In addition, individuals in this age group, including students, working adults, and those raising children, undergo major life changes, thus requiring individualized and diverse support. Therefore, it is necessary to promote a multidisciplinary team approach to ensure optimal treatment, provide comprehensive support, and improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients from this generation. When providing support to survivors after treatment, it is essential to collaborate with outside facilities and take into consideration aspects such as genetic factors, handling pregnancy and raising children post-treatment, long-term effects, and secondary cancers. In this paper, we report on the actual treatment provided and support system available for breast cancer patients from the AYA generation at our hospital.
