A 48-year-old woman visited our hospital because an intrapelvic tumor was discovered on computed tomography (CT). CT showed a 90-mm, marginated mass close to the rectum. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and endoscopy were performed, and the tumor was diagnosed to be an epidermoid cyst because of its cystic content. On laparoscopic examination, the tumor was present in the mesentery of the rectum, and laparoscopic low anterior resection was performed. Pathological examination showed a benign mature cystic teratoma. A mature teratoma originating from the mesentery is rare. Most mature teratomas are diagnosed as benign, but they sometimes show malignant change. Surgical resection should be the treatment of choice for mature teratomas.
