A Case of Ganglioneuroma-Induced Appendiceal Intussusception

Abstract

The patient was a 22-year-old woman who reported bloody stool, nausea, vomiting, and right lower quadrant abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and underwent conservative treatment. However, she deteriorated and was referred to our hospital. On examination, intussusception of the appendix was diagnosed, and laparoscopic appendectomy was performed. On histopathological examination, an appendiceal ganglioneuroma was found. An appendiceal ganglioneuroma without neurofibroma-1 or multiple endocrine neoplasm is rare, and a case of ganglioneuroma-induced appendiceal intussusception has not been previously reported. Thus, this case of ganglioneuroma-induced appendiceal intussusception is described, along with a literature review.
