A 21-year-old woman presented to our hospital with two-day history of general abdominal pain and nausea. Despite symptomatic treatment, her abdominal pain and watery diarrhea worsened. Abdominal CT scan showed intussusception and she was urgently admitted to our hospital. Colonoscopy revealed a dark red mass in the transverse colon. The mass could be easily pushed back to the oral side by an endoscope, and the intussusception could be reduced. A subpedunculated reddish black mass was found in the cecum, and redness and erosion were observed in the surrounding mucosa. Contrast-enhanced CT scan taken the next day showed no evidence of a malignant tumor. Laparoscopy-assisted ileocecal resection was performed because of persistent abdominal pain and a reddish black mass detected by colonoscopy. Pathological findings showed that the mass was an ischemic change of the mucosa and severe thickening of the submucosa. We investigated idiopathic intussusception including past cases.
