Pancreatoduodenectomy and Three Liver Resections Achieved 14-year-long Survival for a Patient with Multiple Relapses of Pancreatoblastoma

Abstract

The case of a 23-year-old woman with a history of pancreatoduodenectomy with portal vein reconstruction and adjuvant chemotherapy for pancreatoblastoma when she was 12 years old is described. Three years later, liver metastasis and peritoneal dissemination were identified, and resection and chemotherapy were performed. A year later, multiple liver metastases were found and resected. Six years later, two liver metastases were found and safely resected. After a total of four abdominal surgeries, she has survived 14 years with no relapse. Pancreatoblastoma is very rare, accounting for only 0.2% of solid tumors in childhood. This is the first report of a case with 14-year-long survival after four abdominal surgeries, including two repeat hepatectomies for multiple relapses of pancreatoblastoma.
