A Case of Pelvic Tumor Resection Performed Using the Right Lateral Recumbent Position and Two-Team Approach

Abstract

Laparoscopic surgery is useful for resection in narrow spaces with a magnified field of view. In the case reported here, a 54-year-old woman underwent surgery for a fatty tumor in the right lateral recumbent position using a two-team approach. The patient was dissected using the dorsal approach with a skin incision along the left gluteus maximus muscle fibers above the tumor under direct vision. After reaching the tumor capsule, the dissecting surface was extended circumferentially to the deepest part of the sciatic notch, and dissection was completed in continuity with the laparoscopically dissected space. The patient was discharged on the 10th without postoperative loss of bowel or urinary functions. Therefore, the two-team laparoscopic and direct visualization approach for pelvic tumors in the lateral recumbent position is considered useful.
