New chemotherapeutic agents with high response rates have increasingly facilitated conversion surgery in patients diagnosed with unresectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma who achieved favorable anatomical and biological responses to chemotherapy that made resection feasible.
This article describes the current status, problems, and prospects of conversion surgery for unresectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and focuses on its outcomes, rate of implementation, indications for use, and prognostic factors.
