A 53-year-old man with type 1 diabetes mellitus presented to the surgical department with abdominal pain and bloody stools. The patient was diagnosed with an intussusception in the sigmoid colon. Emergency colonoscopy revealed pneumatosis of the cystoides intestinalis (PCI). Initially, PCI was considered a side effect of the alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, and therefore, its administration was discontinued. Reduction of intussusception is impossible with colonoscopy, but it is possible with laparoscopic surgery. The patient did not undergo intestinal resection and was cured completely and conservatively. Diabetes mellitus is a common disease ; therefore, similar cases may be encountered in the future. We report this case as few reports of PCI surgical cases that did not require intestinal resection are available.
