Abstract

Solid papillary carcinoma (SPC) is a rare papillary tumor of the breast, often accompanied by invasion. We conducted a clinicopathological review of 13 cases of SPC experienced at our hospital. The average age of the patients was 70.6 years. Chief complaints were nipple discharge in 5, mass in 6 and abnormal screening in 2 cases. Many SPCs exhibited imaging findings with minimal evidence of invasion. Breast surgery was performed in all cases, and sentinel lymph node biopsy, in 12 cases. The pathological findings were non-invasive cancer in 5 cases and invasive cancer in 8 cases. All of the estrogen receptors were strongly positive, 11 progesterone receptors were strongly positive, and 2 were negative. There was no overexpression of HER2 in all cases. Many patients had low nuclear grading and Ki67, and all of them had no lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis. One patient with negative PR and high Ki67 had recurrence of lung metastases. SPC is often invasive, and accurate assessment of the invasive site in each individual case of SPC is important for determining treatment strategies and predicting prognosis.
