Abstract

An 80-year-old man presented with vomiting and anorexia, and was referred to our hospital for examination of duodenal obstruction caused by a 6-cm diameter tumor. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a type 2 tumor with the obstruction at the horizontal part of the duodenum. Computed tomography revealed that the carcinoma had invaded the pancreas and the transverse mesocolon, but the Vater papilla was intact. No dilatation of the main pancreatic duct was seen. The duodenum was completely obstructed at the horizontal part and adenosquamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed by a FNA We performed pancreatoduodenectomy and right hemicolectomy. The patient underwent adjuvant chemotherapy with CAPOX according to colon cancer and there have been no signs of recurrence to date for 1 year and 3 months. Adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the duodenum is rare and we have no standard treatment strategy. We present here a case of adenosquamous carcinoma of the duodenum, together with a review of the literature.
