Active Surveillance for Apillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma—Past, Present, and Future—

Abstract

Active surveillance for papillary thyroid microcarcinoma was first proposed in Japan with evidence from prospective studies. This is a management policy that is now being followed around the world. This article describes the history of active surveillance which is adopted for papillary thyroid microcarcinoma, prospective studies of active surveillance and future perspectives.
