Abstract

A 47-year-old man on peritoneal dialysis was found to have early cancer at a depth of M to SM in the descending or sigmoid colon during lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Since endoscopic treatment for patients on peritoneal dialysis is associated with a high risk of peritonitis, surgery was preferred. A laparoscopy-assisted partial colectomy was performed for suspected sigmoid or descending colon cancer (cTis-cT1, N0, M0, cStage 0 or I). Hemodialysis was started the day after surgery, and peritoneal dialysis was resumed on the 9th postoperative day. There were no subsequent complications. To the best of our knowledge, no guidelines exist regarding colorectal cancer surgery for patients on peritoneal dialysis. This case is presented along with a discussion of the relevant literature.
