Abstract

The lateral stability and control of an airplane at very low speed are investigated.
For the aileron step input, the rolling velocity is oscillatory due to the large values of NpLr and NpLβ, the adverse yawing velocity is large due to large Np and the sideslip is large due to large Np+Yφ, when Cz, becomes large.
By making Np small and Nφ large, these unfavourable response characteristics are improved, but it gives the worse response properties to make Lr small.
