Abstract
Once a week from February, 1993 to December, 2003, the chief nurse of the Division of Operating Rooms and I performed the educational lecture for preoperative patients. By showing pictures of the process from the ward to the OR and of anesthesia, the role of OR nurses and anesthesiologists in charge were visualized. Through this process, a patient might understand the risk of receiving anesthesia and how surgical operations are kept safe.
In addition to the pre-operative visit, a general understanding of the OR and anesthesia could be useful. The importance of disclosure of any sort of medical information by the patient was stressed by giving an example of latex allergy, which is closely connected to the allergy to tropical fruits as a typical example.
