Abstract
We surveyed attitudes toward the new recommendations regarding rescue breathings and chest compressions in the 2010 CPR and ECC Guidelines (G2010) of the American Heart Association (AHA). G2010 AHA-BLS healthcare provider course (HCP) participants were questioned to determine their acceptance and appraisal as a practical guide of the three important recommendations : ‘Give a sufficient tidal volume to produce visible chest rise’, ‘Avoid hyperventilation’, and ‘Compression depth of at least 2 inches/5cm’. Before BLS-HCP, over 80% of participants accepted these three recommendations, and BLS-HCP improved their attitudes significantly (p<0.05). Before BLS-HCP, about 30% of participants considered these recommendations impractical. BLS-HCP significantly improved the proportion of participants who appraised the recommendations as practically useful (p<0.05). G2010 BLS-HCP may help improve participants' attitudes toward the new recommendations in G2010 not only with respect to acceptance but also to their appraisal of the G2010 as a practical guide.
