Ultrasound-guided nerve block has evolved as an alternative to the traditional landmark method or nerve stimulation-guided blocks since the turn of the 21st century. While this new modality has been accepted and is in widespread use worldwide, there is an urgent need to establish appropriate educational guidelines and recommendations for patient safety. The evolution of variable sonographic-specific truncal blocks requires basic training in ultrasound physics and sonoanatomy.
