Abstract

A nine-month-old male infant who had a pulmonary artery sling with bilateral bronchial stenoses at the main bronchi underwent repair of the pulmonary artery sling. Immediately after weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass, adequate ventilation became difficult, probably because of worsening of substantial bronchial stenosis. The infant required high peak airway pressure (up to 60cm H2O) with 10cm H2O 0f positive end-expiratory pressure to maintain appropriate oxygenation for three hours following cardiopulmonary bypass.
In conclusion, worsening of airway stenosis should be watched for in patients receiving surgical repair of pulmonary artery sling.
