Abstract
A Case with adenocarcinoma originating from the bronchial gland was reported.
A polypoid tumor was observed which had developed from the left upper main bronchus in a 69-year-old coal miner.
Tumor cell having slightly dysplastical nuclei and variant cytoplasm including signet ring cells were, noted by sputum cytological examination.
Based on histological examinations, adenoid cystic carcinoma like lesion, signet ring cells and tubular adenocarcinoma were found in the tumor and no other lesion can be found elsewhere in patient's lungs, except for bullous emphysema.
Also careful inspection of exfoliative cells was required, since a sputum cytological examination sometimes shows an expected false negative result in adenocarcinoma arising from the bronchial gland. However, it was noted that brushing and punch biopsy by bronchofiberscope were required for the diagnosis.
