Abstract
A cytological study was made on three patients with condyloma acuminatum which was found by colposcopy when a mass examination was conducted.
In case of these lesions in a small region few findings were characteristic in cytodiagnosis. No typical koilocyte was observed and few dyskeratocytes appeared. Amphophilic, metaplastic, parabasal cells showed relatively specific patterns by the round, swelling, big nucleus with the structure of indistinct chromatin, the amphophilic cytoplasm, and metaplastic disposition. In mass screenings too it is anticipated that cases with condyloma acuminatum will gradually increase from now on as the joint use of colposcopy will increase. On the basis of cytological findings on koilocytes, dyskeratocytes, and amphophilic, metaplastic parabasal cells, to observe the eosinophilic background corresponding to dyskeratocytes and the irregular halo formation corresponding to koilocytes respectively, and at the same time to make a microscopic observation, paying attention to an increase in ordinary type-binucleated cells, seems to make an easy understanding of cytological patterns.
