Abstract
In recent years, digitalization has rapidly advanced even in the manufacturing industry. As the shape of production evolves in tandem with the evolution of information technology, there is a growing demand for learning digital fabrication technology and similar subjects in school education. Therefore, this research aims to explore a teaching process to learn about the digitalization of manufacturing, using " Digital Manufacturing Technology " as a theme. It involves comparing these concepts with traditional manufacturing methods and contemplating the future direction of manufacturing in Japan. We conducted practical lessons targeting third-year middle school students to expose them to the recent digitalization of the manufacturing industry, instruct them on its mechanisms, and engage them in activities that encourage them to consider the future of manufacturing in Japan. The results of this practical lesson showed that students not only acquired fundamental knowledge about digital manufacturing technology but also engaged in thoughtful discussions about the future of manufacturing, thus developing their own perspectives.
