Abstract
In this study, we classified the digital content linked from QR codes (Survey 1) and surveyed teachers about their use of this content (Survey 2) to clarify issues concerning its use in elementary school social studies textbooks and to obtain suggestions for promoting its use. Survey 1 revealed that a total of 1,089 items of digital content linked from QR codes were included in social studies textbooks for grades 3-6 from three publishers. The contents varied widely; many supported children's learning activities in the problem-solving process. Survey 2 results showed that teachers' knowledge, experience, and guidance in using the digital content led to its use by children. The digital content linked from QR codes that teachers most wanted to use was textbook material with a reading comprehension support function. A comprehensive review of Survey 1 and Survey 2 showed that some digital content did not meet teachers' needs in terms of its content.
