Abstract
This study investigated stress distribution in the contact region of the disk using the two-dimensional photoelastic technique and numerical calculations. The position and intensity of maximum shearing stress are derived and, principal stresses and its directions can be obtained easily by the presented analysis with photoelastic patterns. The agreements between the photoelastical and theoretical results are satisfactory.
