Abstract

Objectives: To investigate awareness and perceived challenges related to the implementation of offloading treatment among members of the Japanese Society for Foot Care and Podiatric Medicine(JFCPM).
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using data from an online questionnaire survey administered to JFCPM members. We included physician members(n=224)and other healthcare professional members(n=393). Descriptive analyses were performed to assess awareness regarding offloading treatment, perceived barriers, educational needs, and factors considered necessary for smooth implementation.
Results: Most respondents recognized the importance of offloading treatment; however, system-level constraints, particularly reimbursement systems and device costs, were frequently identified as major barriers. A perceived disparity in awareness between physicians and facility staff was also identified. Educational requirements demonstrated differing selection patterns between physician members and other healthcare professional members; nevertheless, both groups shared recognition of the importance of appropriately assessing indications for offloading treatment and providing adequate explanations to patients and their families.
Conclusions: Although offloading treatment is widely regarded as important, its implementation is influenced by multiple factors, including systemic, economic, and organizational constraints. These findings suggest that promoting offloading treatment requires multifaceted strategies combining policy-level approaches with education and shared understanding within clinical settings.
