Abstract

We report treatment outcomes following the zig-zag nail bed flap procedure performed for incurvated nails between August 2021 and August 2025. The study included 29 patients(4 men and 25 women), with a total of 34 affected toes, who were followed up for at least 6 months postoperatively. The degree of curvature was assessed pre- and postoperatively using the nail width and height indexes. Curvature improved in all cases except one. The single patient for whom no improvement was observed had a staple-type incurvated nail with mild curvature. We concluded that this surgical procedure is indicated for cases involving severe curvature, such as C- or trumpet-type incurvated nails. Furthermore, it is important to concurrently treat any concurrent tinea unguium.
