Abstract
The purpose of this study is unravel the aims of the enactment of "Beschluss uber die weitere Entwicklung der Korperkultur und des Sportes in der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik"(1956), that is generally known as the first sports law in the German Democratic Republic(hereafter GDR). Through analyzing the social and sports situation in those days, the details, contents and characteristics of the law, this study examines the meaning of the law. The following results were obtained. Under the cold war, the law prescribed to show the excellence of the socialistic system in the sports field. Then the law comprehensively, concretely, systematically and concentrately prescribed to encourage all field of GDR sports as compared with the law relating sports that were decided early days in GDR. To put it concretely, the law legally prescribed the plans including the establishment of 'Schulsportgemeinschaft', the trainings of coachers and trainers, military sports, the patriotic education etc. Bihind the enactment of the law, there existed the governmental aims to imitate Soviet sports and the law regarded socialistic ideological educations and military sports as important. On the other hand the government aimed the GDR's original sports as the law regarded 'Schul sport gemein schaft' as important.
