Abstract
We report a case of successful treatment of congenital laryngeal web with subglottic stenosis. The patient was born at 39 weeks gestation (weight 2,320g) and had stridor at birth. A laryngeal web was identified on fiberscopy, and tracheostomy was performed to treat respiratory failure. Direct laryngoscopy at age 1 year 10 months revealed that the congenital laryngeal web was complicated by subglottic stenosis caused by cartilaginous thickening. Radical surgery using a laryngo-fissure approach was done at age 2 years 5 months, and a stent was placed for 3 months. After removal of the stent, re-examination with a tracheostomy tube showed no evidence of laryngeal re-stenosis. She began talking at age 3 years 9 months, and the tracheal stoma was closed at age 5 years. At age 6 years, she leads a normal life, although her voice still has minor huskiness.
