Abstract
We report a case of parathyroid tumor associated with brown tumor. A 46-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with lumbago and leg pain on both sides. Her serum ALP level and serum calcium level were high. Computed tomography revealed osteolytic changes of bone and multiple metastasis of cancer was suspected. We performed computed tomography-guided biopsy of a pathological lesion in bone. The specimen was diagnosed as a brown tumor which was a localized form of osteitis fibrosa cystica, which is a hyperparathyroid bone disease. After confirming the presence of a tumor behind the right lobe of the thyroid, we performed a half thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy. The tumor was diagnosed as parathyroid cancer. Lumbago and back pain due to the brown tumor improved for 6 months. Healing of the bone resorption due to the tumor was confirmed by computed tomography images nine months after the operation.
