Abstract
We retrospectively investigated eight cases of neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the head and neck who received therapy from 2000 to 2013 at Saitama Cancer Center. In this analysis, we studied the clinical investigation and Ki-67 labeling index. Four cases were treated with chemoradiotherapy, and one case each with operation and radiotherapy, induction chemotherapy and operation, operation only, and radiotherapy. The disease-specific survival rate determined by the Kaplan-Meier method was 40%. Four cases survive, but three cases died of distant metastases. The four cases who remain alive have a Ki-67 labeling index of less than 80%; this index may be correlated with tumor aggressiveness.
