A case of metastasis to the thyroid gland from lung carcinoma

Abstract

Metastasis of a tumor to the thyroid gland is rarely observed in usual practice. We report a case of metastasis to the thyroid gland from lung carcinoma.
A 73-year-old male patient with a lung tumor was referred to our hospital. CT findings showed that he had lung cancer along with a thyroid tumor. The thyroid tumor indicated rapid growth. The pathological result of our thyroidectomy was adenocarcinoma, and that of the lung tumor was the same. We diagnosed metastasis to the thyroid gland from the lung carcinoma.
We conclude that treatment for metastasis to thyroid gland tumors should be done with careful consideration to the patient’s QOL, general condition, and performance status.
