Abstract
Cervical schwannoma in the head and neck occurs around the pharynx gap or carotid sheath region, and originates from the vagus, brachial plexus, neck nerve, and sympathetic nerve in more than 30% of cases.
Here we report a case of posterior cervical schwannoma. A 22-year-old female visited our hospital complaining of a posterior cervical mass since about two years ago. Local findings showed a soft mass without tenderness in the deep soft tissue of her left posterior neck. After further examination of images (computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)), schwannoma was suspected. She underwent surgery, and the resected tumor was diagnosed as schwannoma. The course after the operation was good and she was discharged on the 7th postoperative day.
