Abstract
Desmoid tumors are proliferative growths derived from fibroblasts. They are locally invasive, but do not metastasize. Currently, there is no established protocol for the treatment of desmoid tumors. We report a case of a desmoid tumor on the left side of a cervical vertebral body in a 69-year-old man. He visited our department because a mass was identified in the left side of his neck on computed tomography, and he complained of neck pain when twisting his neck to the right. From the appearance of the mass on magnetic resonance imaging, we suspected a mesenchymal tumor. We performed surgery with an incision in the left side of the neck to resect the tumor, which was diagnosed as a desmoid tumor on pathological examination. After surgery, the patient’s left vocal cord was paralyzed; however, the paralysis resolved without treatment four months later. A year after surgery, the patient’s neck pain had not recurred, and tumor regrowth was not identified.
