Abstract
We interviewed 10 nurses who worked in psychiatric in-patients wards and asked them about problems, tangles, dilemma, and troubles that they faced during their daily work. From the words of the nurses, 70 contents were found out, which could be categorized into 6 factors. These factors were further divided into a core factor and inside- and outside factors. The core factor was "nursing without any perspective". The inside factor was composed of "difficulty in the mutual understanding among the nursing staffs" and "lack of respects to patients", which were directly related to the daily activities inside the nursing workplace. The outside factor, which was attributed to the relation of the nursing staff with situation outside the nursing workplace, was comprised of "insufficient environment for the discharged patients", "immature relationships with other medical professions", and "rules and legal provisions that were incompatible with the daily psychiatric practice". The core factor seemed to be intensified by the inside and outside factors, and vice versa, resulting in vicious circles. It is required to relieve the core factor and to break the vicious circles, to bring about the general improvement of the psychiatric practice.
