Abstract
This study examined the methods of providing home-based cancer patients with effective nursing support, by focusing on nursing support provided by visiting nurses. A focus-group interview was conducted involving 5 nurses. As a result, the following structure of 3 core categories, describing nursing support to help cancer patients come to terms with their prognosis, were identified: The nurses first provided patients with [support to help them live by their own values] , and subsequently provided [support to help patients live with cancer] and [support to help patients continue home-based care by improving support environment]. The results suggest the importance of placing emphasis on [support to help patients live by their own values] in nursing support, in order to help them come to terms with their prognosis.
