Abstract
We reported in the previons paper on the fine measurement of die hole.
In this paper we examine the friction in wire drawing from the standpoint of surface technology.
From the results of the preliminary test, we found how to measure the frictional force during wire drawing, and made a measuring apparatus on the basis of vector.
We show an example of the measurement of friction during copper wire drawing.
(1) Drawing Conditions.
Sample: Hard drawn copper wire. Reduction: Drawn from 2.00 mm to 1.82 mm in diameter.
Die: CRD dies steel. total angle 14°30'. Drawing Speed; 3.4 m/min. Lubricant; Colza Oil.
Results
Total drawing load: 52.0 kg
Frictional force: 21. 8 kg
Frictional Coefficient: 0.18
(2) Drawing conditions
Conditions are same as mentioned above, but the cleaned sample and filtered oil are used.
Results
Total drawing load: 47.0 kg
Frictional force;: 16.3 kg
Frictional coefficient: 0.13
