The Influence of Temperature on Mechanical Properties of Work Material

Abstract

Mechanical strength of paraffin, used as work material for hot machining, is decreased by heating from 9.03×10-2 kg/mm2 at 11°C to 0.66×10-2 kg/mm2 at 40°C for shearing strength and from 23.5×10-2 kg/mm2 at 7 °C to 1.1×10-2 kg/mm2 at 40°C for compressive.
The coefficients of friction between paraffin and tool material (H. S. S.) are changed from 0.41 to 0.25 by heating to 44°C from 9°C and have the minimum value at 25°C. In high temperature paraffin tends to be adhesive.
