Abstract

As has been previously mentioned in 1st report, the stock removal in ultrasonic grinding is influenced by the speed ratio παf/vw. and vibrational direction, where α : amplitude, f : frequency, vw : rotating speed of grinding wheel. In this paper, the relations between the finished surface roughness and grinding conditions in ultrasonic grinding by using the ultrasonically vibrated workpiece are investigated. On the assumption that the deformation of the workpiece is idealy plastic and the paths of conical grain on the workpiece remain as they are, an analytical formula for the grain depth of cut in ultrasonic grinding is proposed. As a result, it is made clear theoretically and experimentally that the surface roughness in ultrasonic grinding is influenced by the speed ratio and vibrational direction.
