Abstract
Characteristics are investigated about the generation of surface shapes of upper and lower workpieces in the rotation/reciprocation lapping which has been used to produce camera lens and so on. Simulations are made in two different cases of upper workpiece rotation during reciprocation, one by driving force, the other by frictional force between upper and lower workpieces. The latter iscarried out in experiments. Simulated and experimental results show that the changing process of the surface shapes of the upper and lower workpieces preserves two fundamental properties which have been cleared to govern the process in the reciprocation lapping. Moreover, based on these properties, the process is shown to be able to be described by the same kind of linear differential equation that has been applied to represent the process in the reciprocation lapping.
