Abstract
In this superfinishing method, copper which is electro-deposited on the grinding wheel during the process of superfinishing is proved to have an influence on machining characteristics. It is highly probable that copper which is electro-deposited on the grinding wheel is increased through the coating of abrasive grain with metal. In this experiment, therefore, the grinding wheel of nickel-coated abrasive grains and the one of no nickel-coated abrasive grains are used in order to know for certain the finishing mechanism and increase machining accuracy. The finishing mechanism is discussed by comparing the machining characteristics of the grinding wheel of nickel-coated abrasive grains with those of the grinding wheel of no nickel-coated abrasive grains. The machining accuracy of the finishing done by means of the grinding wheel of nickel-coated abrasive grains is considered. The results are as follows (1) The roughness of the surface which is produced by the grinding wheel of nickel-coated abrasives is about 0.015μmRmax. (2) In this finishing process, copper which is electro-deposited on the wheel rubs ferrites surface, and the surface roughness of the ferrites decreases, with the rubbing effect of copper promoting the chemical action.
