Abstract
In this paper, the results of having evaluated the images of the wear flats of cutting edges on the working faces of grinding wheels, which were obtained under wet condition, by comparing with those under dry condition are reported. Because of the low contrast, generally it was difficult to distinguish the wear flats of cutting edges from the other part of the working faces of grinding wheels, but the images obtained by this apparatus are able to show clearly the wear flats by binarization. Under wet condition, the images are acquired at the practical peripheral speed of grinding wheels of 30 m/s. The time required for acquiring two pictures of 16.35 mm x 2.85 mm region is 1.9 S. The errors in the measurement of images and its accuracy, the threshold levels for binarization and others are investigated. It is known by the experiment that by the disturbances due to coolant and the air injection for securing optical path, the images obtained under wet condition are slightly inferior in the stability to those under dry condition.
