Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to clarify the usefulness of V CRESC α® (NUTRI: Yokkaichi-shi,Japan), which is accessorial beverage contained trace elements and anti-oxidative vitamins.
Material&Method: Tweleve postoperative patients with biliary atresia (BA) orally ingested V CRESC α® according to the Nutritional requirements for Japanese people for three months. Serum Manganase-Super Oxide dismutase (Mn-SOD) level was thought to be a good marker reflecting oxidization stress in the patients with chronic impaired liver function. The patients with BA were divided into two groups according to their serum Mn-SOD levels (HG: high value groups, NG: normal value groups).
Result: Serum Selenium (Se) levels of both groups were shown below normal levels before V CRESC α® ingestion. After V CRESC α® ingestion, serum Se levels were significantly improved to the normal range. In the HG, urine 8-Isoprostane levels and serum IGF-1 levels were significantly improved after V CRESC α® ingestion. TypeIV collagen and liver function markers such as ALT, AST, etc. were not significantly improved after ingestion.
Conclusion: This study suggested that ingestion of the accessorial beverage containing trace elements and anti-oxidative vitamins in the postoperative patients with BA might be useful to reduce their severe oxidative stresses in their cell membranes.
