Abstract
In the present study, authors examined the sintering characeteristics of Pd added tungsten powders, mechanical properties and some properties relating to electrical contact of W-Pd sintered compacts.
The results were as follows.
(1) In the case of 0.5% Pd addition and lhr sintering, dense sintered compacts were obtained above 1000°C sintering temperature. The effects of Pd addition on activated sintering of tungsten were weak to those of Ni-P alloy addition.
(2) Vicker hardness number of W-Pd (Pd 1-5%) sintered compacts showed a maximum of 550 at 1000°C sintering temperature. The transvers rupture strength of Pd added tungsten sintered compacts were stronger than that of Ni-P alloy addition.
(3) As axesuet of electrical, contact test, the amounts of wear of tungsten sintered compact by Pd addition up to 1% were similar to those of pure tungsten contact, the transfer phenomenon being not observed.
