Hot-Extrusion Processing of Y-Ba-Cu-O Ceramic Powder

Abstract

The possibillity of the hot-extrusion processing of YBa₂Cu₃O_r powder was examined. The starting powder was prepared from Y₂O₃, BaCO₃ and CuO powders using the conventional ceramic procedure, and capsulated in copper bullet. The bullet was preheated at a tewperature from 700° to 1000°C for 5 minutes, and then extruded by pressing at a maximum load of about 40 ton. Hardness measurement of the ceramic after extrusion showed that the processing had a good effect on the densification of the ceramic.
