Abstract
Orthorombic YBa2Cu3Oy ceramic powder prepared by solid-state reaction was cupsulated in SUS 304 stainless mold with the dimensions of 22φ-10φ×30h mm. The molds were preheated at a temperature of 950°C for 5 minutes, and then press-forged in a few seconds under uniaxial compressive load. Deformation ratio of the mold was about 30% of the original height and the maximum loads were about 5 ton/cm2. X-ray diffractometry on the polished surface of the press-forged ceramics showed the superconducting (00Q) planes had the preferential orientation perpendicular to the pressing axis.
