Crystal Growth of the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O Superconductor

Abstract

The phase diagram of (BiO)₂Sr₂Ca_n-1CunO_2n+2 of the line (1≤n≤8) could be determined. Based on the phase diagram, we were able to grow single crystals by the self flux method. The features of the crystals grown using such method were in good agreement with the phase diagram. The largest Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_x single crystal could be grown from the compound with nominal composition Bi₂Sr₂Ca₂Cu₃O₁₀.
