Abstract
In order to study the variables which affect the linear shrinkage of metal powder compacts during sintering, tests have been made with several types of copper and iron powders, as well as with Ni-Fe compositions, compacted and sintered under various conditions.
It has been shown that in changing these processing conditions the ratio of shrinkage in the pressing direction to that of shrinkage perpendicular to this direction may change in value from approximately 0.5 to approximately 3. The trends in these shrinkage ratio changes have been established for several variables in the powder metallurgy processing.
