Abstract
Twelve patients of imperforate anus treated with posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) were examined for clinical scoring, anorectal manometry and barium enema. The results were compared with those obtained in 14 patients receiving the classical procedure (Kiesewetter-Rhebein's procedure method). Patients' age ranged from 4 to 8 years. Postoperative period was more than 3 years in each patient. Clinical scoring of anorectal functions following Japanese Study Group on Anorectal Anomalies were compared between 2 groups. The patients treated with PSARP revealed higher mean score than those receiving the other method. But, there is no significant statistic difference. Postoperative manometric studies showed no significant difference between 2 groups. Postoperative barium enema study showed better anorectal anglulation and less frequency of leakage in PSARP, especially in high type anorectal malformations.
