Abstract
Nineteen children and adolescent patients with benign thyroid tumor treated in our hospital are reviewed and analyzed. They consisted of 3 males and 16 females and their age ranged from 6 to 15 years old with average age of 12.5 years old. Histopathologically 11 cases were diganosed as adenomatous goiter and 8 were follicular adenoma. Assoiated thyroid disease were found in three patients, that is, one hypothyroidism and two hyperthyroidism. Total thyroidectomy was performed in only one case, because her both lobe of the thyroid gland was diffusely occupied with adenomatous goiter. Recurrence of the thyroid tumor occured in one patient. The thyroid tumor developed in the remnant thyroid gland six years after the initial operation was removed opratively. It is possible to observe clinical course with a repeated ultrasonographic examination and fine needle aspiration cytologic biopsy in case with no clinical symptoms or cosmetic complaint. But when the tumor enlarges, an operative treatment is required.
