Abstract
Two cases of hydrosalpinx in childhood were reported. Case 1, a 11-year-old girl, was admitted with a 6 month history of left groin bulging at straining. She had a past history of left inguinal hernia repair at 3 years of age. An ultrasonography and a CT scan demonstrated a multicystic lesion distending from the left groin into the pelvic space. A left salpingo-oophorectomy was performed with a diagnosis of hydrosalpinx caused by a ligation of the Fallopian tube during the inguinal hernia repair. Case 2, a 12-year-old girl, was admitted because of abdominal pain with a palapable mass in the right lower abdomen. She had been operated on for meconium peritonitis in the newborn period. Ultrasonography of the mass showed a mixed pattern, a multicystic lesion and a solid one. A right salpingo-oophorectomy was performed with a diagnosis of hydrosalpinx with a torsion of both the ovary and the tube. The hydrosalpinx might be caused by the inflammatory process of the meconium peritonitis. In conclusion, we should pay attention to a hydrosalpinx as a serious complicaction of inguinal hernia repair or pelvic inflammoatory disease in girls.
